Find a job – that’s the logical choice, right? That’s what society has taught us. So, armed with a fresh degree and some previous job experience, you test the job market. However, you should first go over this check list of Job Search dos and don’ts. Perfect your resume. Personalize your cover letter. Iron your shirt before the interview. Censor your Facebook Profile. Wait what? Facebook? Why?

So you’ve recently graduated from a prestigious University and you’re ready to dive into the real world and begin your career. With a fresh diploma in hand, alongside your well-edited resume and an opportunistic mindset, you begin your search. Early into your search you discover that you are a very small fish in a very big sea – and the state of the economy doesn’t help. So how do you make yourself stand out? To improve people search, Google recently launched a user-created profile page for individuals. Google profiles will give you more control (sort of) over what is seen in a Google search for “your name”. In some ways, this new feature allows you to claim your online personal identity with this major search engine. It likely goes without saying, but it should also improve your name-query searches with others as well.

It seems like a simple question. And… usually most businesses respond with a quick “yes”. Since over 90% of people use the Internet to find information, it is no doubt an important place to get found. So… what’s the problem?

LinkedIn is a professional networking site. According to their website, they have 17 million members worldwide, representing 150 industries. Members are mostly entrepreneurs, executives and business owners.

What happens when someone types your name into the search box on Google? Do you appear? Or are you buried so deep in search results no one would find you for days – or even weeks? Or are there many results that appear with your name, but none of them are actually you? Or are you found for things you did in your college years – and they should be forgotten?
